My blog, Look Mom, No hands, is an idea I have had for quite sometime but as always I wait until I am obligated and therefore it starts today. The point of the blog is to offer insight on the reality of being involved with and managing indie/unsigned bands. Since 2007 I have been a rhythm guitar player of the band Life Size Ghost, (unsigned regional touring band) and the guy who keeps the band busy, that entails making marketing and managerial decisions. I have learned a lot over the last few years, some learning experiences great and others not so much. My blogs will include three main categories: Real life band horror stories, Humorous band success stories, and ideas and concepts that I believe will help bands not to make the same mistakes that nearly every band makes. Including how to not break the bank. If this interests you, please make it a point to visit again.
The idea behind the title "Look Mom, No hands is simple. How many times did you take your hand off the bars and fall before gloating to the parent? Mistakes happen and we learn from them, not by quitting but by improving what you did wrong. Hopefully this blog can provide some useful information and practices to individuals, musicians, and those new to marketing and managerial life, that are in search of a heads up.

I certainly have my share of show horror stories. When was a back up dancer for an artist we were supposed to do a show with rapper Jada Kiss from The Lox at a club in Myrtle Beach, SC. The artist manager was not a good manager at all. He wasn't proactive and not good with following up on phone calls or bookings. Dude was slack. So our lives were in his hands. So he drives us (dancers and artist) to South Carolina and we arrive at the venue where the show was gonna be for the sound check and stage run through. We walk in the club and the promoter of the club was like Show? what show? there is no show tonight. You didn't get the message I left or my email? Jada Kiss had to fly to Miami and the show got cancelled. Talk about being over it.
